But our children are no longer getting the critical early opportunities to develop it. Nearly 18% of teachers report spending no time teaching art in an average week, Art & Design teacher training recruits are down 84%!! The impact for our children? - low motivation, low self-confidence, low resilience, anxiety, dysregulation and powerlessness - all the things creative development works to protect us from. This is a crisis. Government has recognised the threat but it’ll be years before this trickles down to our children. Us parents, though, are already in position to make the changes our children need. ‘But my child’s just not creative’ I hear you say. You’re not alone, so so many parents think this. But what if I told you that your child IS creative - all humans are - we’ve just been taught the wrong messages about what it means to be creative. Like that it’s about being ‘arty’ or being good at drawing. In truth, creativity can be highly logical and analytical but we fail to see these things through the stigma.
